Latest Dental Research

Health experts have suggested that a type of bacteria (Streptococcus) – the cause of tooth plaque and gum disease, may be linked to the risk of heart disease.
A research team from University of Bristol and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland have found that bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream, releasing proteins that can cause platelets in the bloodstream to join them in a protective clot, which can increase the risk of a heart attack. The findings are being presented at a meeting of the Society for General Microbiology.
